So, Super Bowl Sunday is upon us with over 100 million viewers projected. If you are interested in maintaining great health by following the Misner Plan, you may be a bit concerned about what you are going to eat at the Super Bowl party you are going to be attending.
There are two things to keep in mind with respect to this “holiday.” Studies show that when we are distracted, we eat more! Second, most of the traditional foods being served at Super Bowl parties are full of chemicals, preservatives, artificial colors and flavors. So it’s a real one-two punch: we are eating MORE of what’s DANGEROUS for our health.
You may want to ask, “Beth, what is your top tip to have a healthy Super Bowl Sunday?” To that I would answer, “Preparation!”
As a matter of fact, go to the kitchen, get your thermos or a large water bottle, fill it up with purified water, and put it with your Broncos or Seahawks Jersey. Get it ready to take with you right now. Make the decision right now to drink water. Pure water can help you flush out any toxins you might end up eating during the day. Also, when your host offers you a second beer or mixed drink, you can say, “Thanks, I‘ve got my thermos.”
So, how are we going to have a healthy Super Bowl Sunday? Think of the Misner Plan as the ultimate UNdiet. We don’t restrict, we replace.
Imagine yourself at that Super Bowl party and you’re looking around the buffet table wondering, “What’s a crunchy, delicious finger food I could have instead of what’s here?” I’ve got one word for you, folks. Almonds! Get a bag of almonds and put them at the door with your team jersey and your thermos of water.
But what about time? Time has a way of breaking down our resistance. We begin to think, “I’ll get back to the Misner Plan tomorrow. One piece won’t hurt, everyone else is eating it.” This is a pivotal moment . . . we call it the Fourth Quarter Moment.
This is the moment of temptation and here is what will help you stay committed in the midst your Fourth Quarter Moment: Remember that YOU are the quarterback of your own health, not anyone else and certainly not a chemical-laden, toxic snack food! Picture that talking chip from the Super Bowl commercials and talk back to it!
This is not the time to choke. This is the time to push on into the end zone and score your own health touchdown.
Okay, so what if you are sacked by the chip . . . or the brownies . . . or the ranch dip? Or all of them put together?! You can do a three-day focus on detoxing after the party.
Here are three simple tips to help you detox:
- Start each day with hot water and lemon,
- Replace animal protein with plant protein,
- Remember the 5-10 Rule: by 10 AM eat 5 different colored vegetables and do 10 minutes of exercise
These three tips will help your body get back into balance quickly and restore your immune function after a momentary break from the Misner Plan.
