Great tips and sharing, ladies. We did not use yogurt during Phase 1 . . . it is not beneficial for those with any type of inflammatory condition due to the proclivity to cause additional inflammation. Also, when caramelizing veggies during Phase 1, be sure to take them just to the edge of dark brown. Going too dark will make them sweeter and part of Phase 1 is really reprogramming our taste buds away from sweet. But getting some color on them will really kick up the flavor of the base stock, like you point out, Susan. Good stuff!
Okay, so we talked about spaghetti squash and given the alternatives of what you were craving, I’m glad you made that yummy meal! Now that you are on Phase 3, aren’t you loving that?
As for cutting it, I like to use a very long serrated blade to get the first cut started, then I get out my largest butcher’s knife and cut it like you would a watermelon . . . with a round motion, moving the squash up and around the blade. Maybe we can get Eddie Esposito to load a spaghetti squash cutting video lesson for us! What do you say, Chef?
As for your minerals question, Erin, Kona Gold is a brand of minerals and can be purchased from the Center for Advanced Medicine or any BNI member who is a representative for Integris Global. The benefit to this brand is that the trace minerals are contained in the supplements, as well as the proper ratio of the majors: calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium in the forms recommended by Dr. Kellas (chelated). It also contains Vitamin D3.
During Phase 1 it can help a lot when a capsule is opened up and held under the tongue so that the minerals go quickly into the bloodstream. Kona Gold is naturally free of common environmental pollutants, such as mercury, lead and cadmium which are generally present in land-based mineral sources.

Hi, Erin. I am sorry I missed seeing your question. In case I did not address this for you in an email, let me answer here for everyone’s benefit. Summer squash are lower in naturally occurring sugars, so they are used during Phase 1 and Phase 2. The Winter squash family is higher in naturally occurring sugars, so they are reserved for Phase 3. A treat to look forward to!
I love to add pureed squash to pancake mix for a delicious variety. A little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg and the hearty pancakes are even better! Oh, hey, I should do a recipe for that!

For those of you who have been moving through the phases, do you have a favorite phase? We found that we liked each of the phases for different reasons. Especially Phase 1. It is SO much easier to do Phase 1 with a companion, than to do it alone.
Erin, I have been drinking it for about 10 years and have not noticed any change in the flavor. The change is from what is living or not living in your mouth…the bad taste is from the bacteria dying off when you drink it. If you don’t have as much bacteria, then you don’t have that yucky taste. Believe it or not, some people say it has very little flavor. I hated it at first, but now find it to be quite mild.
My goal for the mini-cleanse I am doing with you is to release any and all toxins I have accumulated while here over the last three weeks eating foods which are conventionally grown, not organically grown. I am not sure if I have accumulated any unwanted pounds, my clothes are still fitting about the same, but I feel bloated and just a bit slower than normal. My day one went really well, although I did have a little bit of a headache today. Might have been from some of the detoxing getting started.

Hi, Jim. Great!! I’m so glad you are giving it a go! Here are some of the things Ivan and I enjoy for breakfast during Phase 1:
Sliced cucumbers with green onion tops, chopped parsley, tossed with lemon juice (about 1 tsp) and sea salt
Grilled zucchini drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with Celtic salt flakes
Grilled onions with steamed spinach, 1 Tbsp Lemon Olive Oil (see website recipe section), sea salt and garlic powder
After day four:
Brown rice with 2 tsp. coconut oil and cinnamon
Buckwheat groats with 2 tsp. coconut oil and cinammon
Quinoa with 2 tsp. coconut oil and cinammon
Wild rice with sauteed chopped onions, toasted garlic chips, steamed spinach and Lemon Olive Oil

Remember that you can start first in any phase you feel is appropriate for you. And we do not recommend attempting Phase 1 without the supporting supplements.
